Facets of Indian Culture will highlight the connection of dance, material culture (e.g. ornaments, tools), medieval sculpture, and painting. Kuchipudi dance, a South Indian dance form, will be performed. A demonstration of hand gestures with explanatory narratives will precede each of two ten-minute dances. A collection of figurines and idols will be on display. A moderated talk and Q & A session, and reception provided by Mumbai Times will follow the dance performances.
Layavinyasa, a woman-led organization that builds bridges between people of different cultures and forges new paradigms using Indian art forms, will produce and present the program. The program will be hosted outdoors at the Greenwich Historical Society in association with ICC.
